I never wanted to get into politics on this site. I just wanted to do some light-hearted writing about my experiences in love and my career, and also have some fun with shoes and women’s fashion. But after last night’s Iowa caucus voting, I can’t help it. The fact that any person, particularly any woman or minority, actually cast a vote for Rick Santorum is just shameful and mind-boggling. Who are these people? I found a BuzzFeed article with photos of supporters. They look like they couldn’t be happier if they had just watched the public stoning of a hooker. I am from Pennsylvania where he was a two-term senator, and we could not wait to vote him out. He lost miserably to Senator Casey, but really, he would have lost to a jug of stale milk if we had the option to vote for that.

I did a quick Google image search for him to get this. It was the only picture that didn't make me cringe and shutter. Courtesy: MadMikesAmerica
I don’t despise Santorum because he is a conservative. It’s because he thinks the Bible is the law of the land. For Christians, the Bible is supposed to be your own moral code, not used to rule and create laws that all citizens must follow. Santorum has used the Bible to defend his views, which are anti-minority, anti-middle and poor class, anti-gay, anti-progress, and – most importantly to me – anti-women. It’s like the guy wants to start his own Crusades! And on that note, his views on foreign policy are anything but anti-war. The guy would bomb anyone in the name of Jesus and “traditional” American values.
I think this site sums up exactly why the guy is completely out of touch with reality. It’s a list of the 10 worst things he has said on the campaign trail. This doesn’t even include things he has said while a Senator, in his books, or before he started campaigning.
What is scariest to me is that he has said, if elected president, he will abolish all federal funding for contraception and allow states to abolish birth control. I don’t think any state could ever do that, but we cannot have a presidential candidate going around saying this is a good idea. In his book, he writes about working mothers being the reason for the decline of American families and society. He believes that moms not being at home to raise children is why kids turn to drugs and drop out of schools. Moms providing a second income, he writes, “provides a convenient rationalization for pursuing a gratifying career outside the home.” Someone please send this guy back to the 1900’s.
I don’t think I need to talk about his views on same-sex marriage. That topic has been discussed and at this point is like beating a dead horse (an act that he probably likens to gay sex). He is just awful and has no place in American society, much less the White House.
Even if you hate Obama, Rick Santorum is not the answer. I think most Americans know this, but the fact that he is even a topic of conversation right now is scary. Iowa, as a state where same-sex marriage is legal, I expected more out of you. I invite anyone woman who voted for him yesterday to please email me: GlassHeelsMail@gmail.com, and just please answer, “Why?”
