Daily Shoe-topia: Aldo wedges

Aldo "Milius" wedges in natural. Available at Zappos.com.

It’s a done deal – I am going to ALDO this week and buying these.  It took me a while to get on board with the wedges trend, but I can’t argue with these.  They’re gorgeous, casual yet chic.  They will be mine, oh yes, they will be mine.

I think Rachel Maddow got whiplash during this clip. It makes my head spin too.

And I’m doing it again… I’m writing about politics.  The last time I did that was a few months ago when Rick Santorum somehow became a viable contender in the race to be the Republican party presidential nominee.  It was a very scary few months.  I am thankful for the Daily Show and Colbert Report for helping me laugh through it.  Thank goodness that’s over, and he can crawl back in his hole where apparently the Crusades are still going on.

Rachel Maddow. I'm sure she's heard this before, but this lady has balls. I wonder if she is paid as much as Chris Matthews, Sean Hannity, David Gregory, and the rest of her male counterparts.

But on a more serious note… how do conversations like this still occur in 2012??   Watch Rachel Maddow destroy GOP strategist Alex Castellanos on Meet The Press on the subject of male-female inequality in the work force.  First, he interrupts her.  Then, he says that men get paid more because they work more hours and because there are more men in the higher paying fields.  He makes it sound like it’s our fault… that women CHOSE the lower paying jobs for all these years.  Even still, in these fields that are traditionally male dominated, women in the exact same position are being paid less than their male counterparts.

Kudos to Rachel for keeping her cool, even after he was completely condescending and patronizing to her. I thought he was going to pat her on the cheek and call her “cute” next.  It’s only a matter of time, Rachel.  Within the last year, women now outnumber men on college campuses, particularly in the fields that Castellanos spoke of in the clip.  If the Republicans think they are going to win this election by focusing on women’s rights and inequality, they are even more delusional than the time they thought Sarah Palin would make a good vice president.

“The great question that has never been answered and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my 30 years of research into the feminine soul, is: What does a woman want?” ~ Sigmund Freud

Daily Shoe-topia: Pink sparkly heels by Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson "Glitzee" heels. Available at Zappos.com

All right, I think it’s only fitting that my first Shoe-topia for 2012 is… Betsey!  The holidays are over, the weather is cold, and it seems like I am not the only one saying “Good riddance!” to 2011.   I became wiser in 2011.  I found that you can lose a job, a boyfriend or a family member at anytime.   If 2011 wasn’t your year, you certainly weren’t alone.  I do hope 2012 is better by leaps and bounds, and that could be financially, career-wise, health and wellness or in your relationships.  I know I would like help in all of those areas!  While I wait for a fairy godmother, to win the lottery, or my blood, sweat and tears to pay off, I am trying to be thankful for the little things – for dinner and wine with girlfriends, for staying up past midnight watching super hero movies with my nephew, for a car that gets great gas mileage and gets me to weddings and weekend getaways.  And with that, I will also be thankful for sparkly shoes!  Shoes that remind us to be carefree and not worry about things we cannot control.  So with this great pair by Betsey Johnson, I am wishing everyone a happy new year, filled with many chances to laugh, love, and have fun.

Santorum surge is scary in so many ways.

I never wanted to get into politics on this site.  I just wanted to do some light-hearted writing about my experiences in love and my career, and also have some fun with shoes and women’s fashion.  But after last night’s Iowa caucus voting, I can’t help it.  The fact that any person, particularly any woman or minority, actually cast a vote for Rick Santorum is just shameful and mind-boggling.  Who are these people?  I found a BuzzFeed article with photos of supporters.  They look like they couldn’t be happier if they had just watched the public stoning of a hooker.  I am from Pennsylvania where he was a two-term senator, and we could not wait to vote him out.  He lost miserably to Senator Casey, but really, he would have lost to a jug of stale milk if we had the option to vote for that.

I did a quick Google image search for him to get this. It was the only picture that didn't make me cringe and shutter. Courtesy: MadMikesAmerica

I don’t despise Santorum because he is a conservative.  It’s because he thinks the Bible is the law of the land.   For Christians, the Bible is supposed to be your own moral code, not used to rule and create laws that all citizens must follow.   Santorum has used the Bible to defend his views, which are anti-minority, anti-middle and poor class, anti-gay, anti-progress, and – most importantly to me – anti-women.  It’s like the guy wants to start his own Crusades!  And on that note, his views on foreign policy are anything but anti-war.  The guy would bomb anyone in the name of Jesus and “traditional” American values.

I think this site sums up exactly why the guy is completely out of touch with reality.  It’s a list of the 10 worst things he has said on the campaign trail.  This doesn’t even include things he has said while a Senator, in his books, or before he started campaigning.

What is scariest to me is that he has said, if elected president, he will abolish all federal funding for contraception and allow states to abolish birth control.  I don’t think any state could ever do that, but we cannot have a presidential candidate going around saying this is a good idea.  In his book, he writes about working mothers being the reason for the decline of American families and society.  He believes that moms not being at home to raise children is why kids turn to drugs and drop out of schools.  Moms providing a second income, he writes, “provides a convenient rationalization for pursuing a gratifying career outside the home.”   Someone please send this guy back to the 1900’s.

I don’t think I need to talk about his views on same-sex marriage.  That topic has been discussed and at this point is like beating a dead horse (an act that he probably likens to gay sex).  He is just awful and has no place in American society, much less the White House.

Even if you hate Obama, Rick Santorum is not the answer.  I think most Americans know this, but the fact that he is even a topic of conversation right now is scary.  Iowa, as a state where same-sex marriage is legal, I expected more out of you.  I invite anyone woman who voted for him yesterday to please email me: GlassHeelsMail@gmail.com, and just please answer, “Why?”

FYR: Dating advice from the ’30’s

Saw this the other day and thought I would share.  Dating advice from the ’30’s.  I love these vintage ads and articles that are all about catering 100% to the guy and his needs, likes and interests.  And I only like them because we’ve come so far with gender equality in terms of dating that we can actually consider this humorous.  It makes me wonder at what point did something like “Men deserve your entire attention,” become so ridiculous.

FYR: I’m a sucker for “Ultimate Proposal”

A shot from "Ultimate Proposal." I teared up well before he got down on one knee.

So I know the whole theme of my blog being love and career and how we can’t have both may seem pretty cynical. But, while I am super focused on my career like so many 20- and 30- something women, let’s face it, I am a hopeless romantic.  My newest obsession: “Ultimate Proposal” on Yahoo.  OMG, ladies, have you seen this?  The latest episode with James and Chantelle, where he plans a proposal in the middle of the skating rink at Rockefeller Center has been my favorite so far.  I just love how these guys plan the most spectacular ways of asking their girlfriends to marry them.  The proposals are like something that you only see in the movies, but they are real people!  Kate & Leo, Bella & Edward, and Romeo & Juliet have nothing on these couples.   Maybe I like this show so much, not just because I have a softer side, but because I’m one of those people that doesn’t half-ass anything when it comes to my career or my relationship.  And so it’s nice to see guys that put forth so much effort and settle for nothing but the very best when it comes to their ladies.
